As part of the 2017-18 Budget, the Treasurer Scott Morrison has announced the creation of an affordable housing bond aggregator, the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC), to raise money at lower rates from the wholesale bond market for not-for-profit community housing providers.

New research from Â鶹Éç finds that Australia’s homelessness services are overwhelmingly unable to meet client demand and that additional funding models are needed to address the critical unmet need for housing and homelessness services.

In an exciting first, Â鶹Éç and researchers from University of NSW, RMIT University, University of Tasmania and Swinburne University have released findings from the Â鶹Éç Inquiry ‘Affordable housing industry capacity’ in an easy-to-understand visual report. The research advances our understanding of Australia’s affordable housing industry and its capacity to expand.

Â鶹Éç Executive Director Dr Ian Winter has been invited by the Australian Government to join a Cities Reference Group to help advise Government on cities policy. Dr Winter joins experts from property, planning, infrastructure, architecture, local government and academia on the specialist reference group.

Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison delivered an hour-long pre-budget address on housing affordability hosted by Â鶹Éç at the State Library in Melbourne on Monday 10 April. The speech focused not only on affordability challenges to do with home ownership, but also the difficulties faced by Australians in the rental market, particularly those in social and affordable housing.
