When population movements happen, due to rising housing unaffordability, or as occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, it can impact on house prices with a ripple effect on multiple housing submarkets, new Â鶹Éç research has confirmed.

The 2024 Federal Budget (on Tuesday 14 May 2024) announced a number of funding measures targeted to the housing and homelessness sectors, as well as confirming previous funding and policy actions. In this Budget the Government champions its ongoing $32 billion plan to help deliver more homes, including $6.2 billion of new initiatives.

Moving the social housing sector to an outcomes-based funding model will require standardised tools to be developed for measuring and evaluating complex housing services, new Â鶹Éç research has found.

Representatives from a range of sectors from across the country met in Sydney and virtually on Thursday 9th May for the Â鶹Éç one day conference Circular economy housing, to explore what it will take for the Australian housing sector to make the shift toward reducing the significant carbon emissions generated throughout the life-cycle of Australian homes. 

Enabling social housing tenants to participate in social housing policy and services that affect them can lead to a range of positive benefits: from improving the way housing and associated essential social services are provided to giving tenants a heightened sense of autonomy and a stronger sense of belonging within their communities, new Â鶹Éç research has highlighted. This is especially relevant as social housing tenants increasingly present with more complex health, housing and social care needs.
